Call for Papers: University of Arts in Belgrade, Faculty of Music,
Department of Musicology, Belgrade, Serbia, 23-26 April 2014
Musical Practices – Continuities and Transitions, XII. International
Conference of the Department of Musicology, Faculty of Music in Belgrade
On the assumption that every consideration of the relationship between
constancy (continuity) and changes – these usual/fixed opposites in the
conventional notional apparatus of humanities – is destined to conceive
paradoxical instabilities of changes, their elusiveness and, consequently,
merely deceptive stability of continuity, the Department of Musicology of
the Faculty of Music has decided to initiate deliberation of a different
type of relationship, the one established between two floating/permeable
strata of actuality – continuity and transition.
Thematic areas:
1. Transitions of production – in the domain of works,
opuses/compositional techniques, media and new-media realm – from
production to post-production;
2. Transitions of distribution – from ritual/repertoire/performance to the
Internet;
3. Transitions of reception – (musicological) language in transition; from
critique to DIY culture, from canonization to interpretation;
rediscovering aesthetics – stages and areas of conceptualization of music.
Please submit your paper topic (including the number of the thematic
area), an abstract of 250 words, and your short biography not later than
31 October 2013 to: belgradeconference2014 at fmu.bg.ac.rs.
