Instructor or Assistant Professor of Vocal Jazz

The School of Performing Arts at Minnesota State University Moorhead invites applications for a 9-month, fixed-term (non-tenure track) position in music for the 2015-16 academic year.  

Responsibilities:
  • Teach 12 credits per semester, including:
    • Aural Skills I, II, and III
    • Applied Jazz Voice 
    • Vocal Jazz Ensemble
    • Commercial Keyboard (for music industry and jazz studies majors)
  • Conduct creative or scholarly work or activity
  • Engage in continued preparation and study
  • Contribute to student growth and development
  • Engage in service to the university/community
  • Other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree in Music
  • Demonstrated abilities as a performer, director and pedagogue in vocal jazz
  • Demonstrated abilities teaching aural skills classes at the undergraduate level
  • Demonstrated abilities as a teacher of basic jazz/commercial keyboard  
  • Evidence of successful teaching experience at the college or secondary level
  • Evidence of effective communication, interpersonal and collaboration skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work successfully with students of diverse backgrounds including a sensitivity to their needs and concerns
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Earned Doctorate or ABD in Music with an emphasis in jazz studies (voice) or vocal performance
  • Evidence of successful college/university teaching experience
  • Evidence of potential for creative/scholarly work
  • Ability to advise and mentor undergraduate students
  • Evidence of strong recruiting skills or a well-conceived recruiting strategy
