Assistant Professor of Composition
Washington University in St. Louis announces a full-time, tenure-track position in music at the assistant professor level to begin in August 2014. We are seeking a composer or composer-theorist who is articulate and passionate about the creation and performance of new music and is actively pursuing a career both nationally and internationally.
The appointee will be expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in composition (including private instruction), theory, and possibly other areas, depending on the candidate’s expertise and the department’s need. These areas could include electronic music, musicianship, or multimedia arts. Other duties include maintaining an active career as a composer, advising students, serving on department committees, and other duties as assigned by the University. Candidates must have a record of creative artistic and intellectual achievement. Engagement with music-theoretical issues and a commitment to teaching music in a department of music in a research university environment are important qualifications for the position. Requires completion of a DMA or PhD before taking up the position.
Consideration of applications will begin on October 1, 2013, and continue until the position is filled. Applicants should send a letter of application detailing creative and teaching interests, a curriculum vitae, and three letters of recommendation to: Dr. Todd Decker, Chair, Composition Search Committee, Department of Music, Campus Box 1032, Washington University, One Brookings Drive, St. Louis, MO 63130-4899, or by email to daniels at wustl.edu. Please do not send scores or recordings at this time.
We especially encourage applications from women and members of underrepresented minority groups. Washington University in St. Louis is an equal opportunity employer. Employment eligibility verification required upon hire.
