ADOLPHE SAX, HIS INFLUENCE AND LEGACY:
A BICENTENARY CONFERENCE
Antoine-Joseph Sax, (known as Adolphe Sax), was born in Dinant (Belgium) on the 6th of November 1814. He was one of the towering figures in nineteenth century musical instrument development, especially in respect of wind instruments. On the occasion of the bicentenary of his birth, the Brussels Musical Instruments Museum is hosting a conference on Sax, his influence and legacy. It will cover his contribution to musical instrument development, the various strands of musical activity in which his instruments were used and its influence on repertoire and style. No topics will be excluded if they promise to reveal a significant new understanding of the impact of Sax’s work.
Abstracts of 500 words for a 20 minute paper should be submitted before 2 December 2013 to Anne-Emmanuelle Ceulemans (a.ceulemans at mim.be), along with a short biography of its author. The abstracts should provide a clear outline of the content of the full paper and an indication of how it addresses the conference title. They will be examined by the scientific committee, which will communicate its decisions on 6 January 2014.
Papers selected for publication in the proceedings of the conference should be submitted by 14 November 2014 at the latest.
