Call for Musicologists for Research Fellowship Positions:

The University for Music and Performing Arts Vienna (M.A.E.D. ­ Music Analysis and Exile Documentation Research Center, www.mdw.ac.at/maed) seeks musicologists who have experience in research on original manuscripts, experience in archival research, and who have demonstrated an interest in 20th century music for a 36 month Research Fellowship position. Duties include analysis and documentation of original Korngold manuscripts and creating a database for further use (critical edition).

A Ph. D. in musicology or a doctoral candidate is required. The area of specialization within musicology is open, but expertise within 20th century music or on the life, times, and/or works of Erich Wolfgang Korngold is preferred. Profeciency in both English and German is required.

The University for Music and Performing Arts Vienna is in the process of applying for the Austrian FWF Grant. Applicants will be notified when the project start date is known. Applicants obtaining the Research Fellowship position will receive a monthly (gross) salary of  € 3,411.80 per 40 hours of work with a Ph. D. earned, or € 1,955.80 per 30 hours of work without a Ph. D.

This project is a cooperation by the M.A.E.D., the International Erich Wolfgang Korngold Society and exil.arte. The International Erich Wolfgang Korngold Society’s primary objective is to research and increase the accessiblity of public knowledge of and cultivate an increased awareness of the life and works of the renowned Austrian composer Erich Wolfgang Korngold. The Society is a non-profit organization, and was created to support and publicize the Critical Edition of the complete works of Erich Wolfgang Korngold. exil.arte operates as a center for the reception, preservation and research of Austrian composers, performers, musical academics, and thinkers who, during the years of the Third Reich, were branded as ‘degenerate’ (www.exilarte.at).
