CONF: American Handel Society, Princeton Univ., Feb 2013

Conference:  American Handel Society at Princeton University, February 21-24

On behalf of the American Handel Society and Princeton University, I would like to invite you to the 2013 American Handel Conference and Festival, beginning on February 21.

The four days of events will feature academic presentations by distinguished Handel scholars from around the globe and a series of special performances by acclaimed guest artists and Princeton students.  Special presentations – on Saturday, February 23 – include the 2013 Howard Serwer Lecture, which will be delivered by Professor Reinhard Strohm (Oxford University), a panel discussion on the Metropolitan Opera’s production of Jeremy Sams’ pasticcio The Enchanted Isle, and a private concert and banquet in Chancellor Green for conference attendees.  Firestone Library will also host an exhibition library holdings relating George Frederic Handel preserved in the Manuscript Division of the Department of Rare Books and Special Collections, including the recently purchased scribal copy of Handel’s Berenice, from the library of Charles Jennens.

Performances include an evening with the English Concert, directed by Harry Bicket (February 21, 8pm at Richardson Auditorium in Alexander Hall) that will be introduced by a pre-concert lecture by Professor Stephen Zohn (Temple University), and a performance of Handel’s Dixit Dominus by the Princeton University Chamber Choir, directed by Gabriel Crouch (February 22, 7:30pm at Taplin Auditorium in Fine Hall).  Conference attendees also have the option of participating in a group trip to the Sunday afternoon performance of Handel’s Radamisto at Carnegie Hall, featuring Harry Bicket directing the English Concert (February 24, 2pm).

The Festival will conclude on March 3 with a performance Handel’s Israel in Egypt by the Princeton University Glee Club and Chamber Choir, directed by Gabriel Crouch, for the Walter L. Nollner Memorial Concert (March 3, 3pm, Richardson Auditorium in Alexander Hall). Tickets are limited please register as soon as possible!!
