The Department of Music at the University of California San Diego (http://music.ucsd.edu/), committed to academic excellence and diversity within the faculty, staff and student body, invites applications for a Music Scholar appointment at the Assistant Professor level (full-time/ tenure-track) to begin July 1, 2013. The successful candidate must have a completed doctorate in ethno/musicology or an allied field by that time, a record of excellence in teaching at the university level, and a demonstrated potential for significant scholarship and publication.
Candidates will be expected to contribute to the undergraduate music program, preferably in the Jazz and Music of the African Diaspora concentration, and to the graduate program in Integrative Studies. Potential areas of interest include (but are not limited to) improvisation, experimental practices and creative processes, and/or music of the African Diaspora. We seek a dynamic individual who is able to engage emerging trends and theories, to advise graduate research projects including theses and dissertations, and to integrate into a vital community of artists, scholars, and artist-scholars in the Music Department at UCSD. Candidates will be expected to perform appropriate departmental and university service, and an ability to foster connections to other departments, programs, and research centers across the campus is highly desirable.
Successful candidates will demonstrate strong or potential accomplishments in areas contributing to diversity, equity and inclusion, and a desire to play a leadership role in advancing UC San Diego's commitment to achieving excellence and diversity.
