The Cornell University Department of Music invites applications the position of Assistant Professor
(full-time, tenure-track) in Ethnomusicology. The appointment will commence 1 July 2013.

The successful candidate will have a doctorate (or equivalent professional accomplishment),
engage emerging trends and theories in ethnomusicology and related disciplines, and demonstrate
a commitment to ethnographic research. Evidence of scholarly potential, with the promise of
establishing an international reputation, and demonstrated excellence in teaching are required.
At Cornell, ethnomusicology is considered part of the broader study of musicology at both the
graduate and undergraduate levels. Our department values historical and ethnographic approaches
informed by music-making and performance, cultural and critical theories, and interdisciplinary
perspectives. The successful candidate will be able to foster connections to other departments,
programs, and area studies centers across the University.
