CFP (journal articles): Music and Contemporary Culture

The Music Department at the University of Haifa (Israel) is launching Music and Contemporary Culture, a scholarly peer-reviewed journal to be published online. Its website is currently under construction.

The journal aims to nurture and strengthen a broad interdisciplinary conversation about contemporary music, from both local and global perspectives. We invite submissions from those working in musicology, music theory, composition, ethnomusicology, cultural studies, performance and related fields.

Music and Contemporary Culture will primarily publish scholarly articles in the fields of musicology (including history and analysis), sociology and philosophy of music; writings by creators and performers, and professional reports relating to music technology. From time to time, additional material will be included, including in-depth interviews with composers and performers, lectures that were given at symposia, invited reviews, and relevant audio and video materials.

We are particularly interested to receive articles and that address the following – and related – topics:
Musicological, theoretical, analytical and social approaches to contemporary music and musical practices in Israel and further afield
The relationship between music and other arts
Musical eclecticism in the 21st century
Music and digital culture
Music and consumer culture
Music and politics
Aesthetic issues

The first call for papers is attached. We look forward to receiving papers for the first issue by February 20, 2012 for a projected publication date of July 2012.

The Journal’s statement of intent, the list of its editors, the call for papers and the instructions for submissions are all accessible on the Department’s website (http://music.haifa.ac.il/english/index-eng.htm).

With best regards,

Yuval Shaked
