CFP: AMS Cold War Music Study Group at AMS/SEM/SMT New Orleans, Nov 2012

The Cold War Music Study Group (CWMSG) of the AMS will sponsor an alternative-format session at the joint AMS/SEM/SMT meeting in New Orleans in November 2012, and seeks participants from all three organizations for a panel on methodology in the study of music and/in the Cold War. Methodologies could include but are by no means limited to oral histories, perspectives on analysis, archival research, interdisciplinary approaches, etc. We are particularly eager to facilitate dialogue with colleagues who specialize in regions and repertoires outside of/different from our recent focus on Europe and North America. Participants will be selected by the Members-at-Large and the Chair of the CMWSG, and the precise contours of the session will then be determined by those participants. We invite submissions from individuals who would like to participate as panelists, respondents, chair, or organizer, as well as those proposing to exploit the possibilities of the alternative-format session in other ways. Interested parties should email Joy Calico, chair of the CWMSG, joy.calico atvanderbilt.edu , with the following information no later than 23:59 on Monday 19 December: name, institution, status (graduate student, independent scholar, etc), discipline, and brief (200 words or fewer) description of your proposed contribution to the session.
